The Cabin Comes Off

Crew removing the cabin roof from the Yukon Delta 25 on its trailer

Captain’s Log Episode 2 follows the cabin removal and restoration of our 1982 Yukon Delta 25, the Yukon Delta Nomad. This classic Yukon Delta boat rebuild includes cabin demolition, fiberglass boat restoration, marine remodeling, custom cabin construction, and the complete transformation of a vintage Yukon Delta cabin cruiser.

Because we’re getting older and can’t do everything we once could, we hired three fellows to help remove the old cabin.

They arrived at 7:00 that morning and immediately went to work. While they handled the demolition, I filmed the process and took photographs to document this major step in the Yukon Delta Nomad rebuild.

These guys were incredible workers. By 9:00 a.m.—just two hours later—the entire cabin had been removed, and they were already heading home. Before leaving, they swept out the inside of the boat and cleaned up the debris, splinters, and scraps scattered around the work area.

We loaded the old aluminum and rotten wood onto a small trailer borrowed from a friend and hauled everything to the dump. The disposal fee was only about $16—and just like that, the old cabin was gone.

The Yukon Delta is now completely stripped and ready for the next stage of its transformation. It was a big day, and we couldn’t have asked for a better crew to help us get it done.
